The same protection, a fraction of the price
A used concrete barrier is a Jersey barrier that has previously been used on an earlier project—typically a civil engineering project, a long-term road construction site, or an industrial installation. Once the project is completed, we retrieve the barriers, inspect them, and put them back into service in our fleet.
The safety function remains equivalent to a new barrier: the characteristic Jersey geometry is intact, the concrete is sound, and vehicle redirection in the event of an impact occurs with the same profile. What changes is the appearance: traces of dust, handling marks, sometimes surface chipping at the ends. For the vast majority of B2B applications where aesthetics are not critical, this is the most rational option.

Used guardrails can be rented or purchased for a fraction of the price of new barriers. For a construction site requiring several dozen, or even hundreds of units, the difference quickly amounts to thousands of dollars, with no loss in safety.

Our used fleet operates continuously between our three depots. For urgent needs or large volumes, it's generally the used stock that responds the fastest—without production delays.
Identical performance
The redirective geometry of a Jersey barrier remains functional as long as the profile is intact. Each reused barrier is inspected before being put back into service: concrete integrity, anchors, sliding profile.

Where the used slide rail is the best compromise
Construction site security
Delimiting work areas from traffic, separating operational zones, protecting ground teams. The economical option for long-term sites where the barrier remains in place for several months.
Events and Street Closures
Festivals, races, public markets, demonstrations, sports tournaments. Blocks vehicular access visibly and impassably. The lower cost allows for renting in larger quantities for the same budget.
Industrial yards and warehouses
Demarcation of traffic lanes, protection of loading docks, partitioning of storage areas. Cosmetic appearance is of little importance in a daily handling environment.
Quarries, sand pits, sorting centers
Delimitation between the weighbridge, the loading area, and the exit. Protection of ground personnel. Movable from one cell to another depending on the progress of operations.
What "used" means for us
Every barrier returning to our fleet undergoes an inspection before being put back into service. We check:
- The integrity of the Jersey profile (intact curved shape, no structural fracture)
- The condition of the concrete (absence of through cracks, rebar not critically exposed)
- The condition of the anchor points and lifting eyes (for handling)
- The flatness of the base (stable seating once installed)
Barriers with structural defects are removed from the fleet. Those that are only surface-marked — scratches, handling marks, soiling — are kept: these defects do not affect their safety function.
We are not trying to sell you disguised new products. The appearance of a used barrier is not the same as that of a new one, and that is precisely why it costs less.

At the end of the construction, we will take back the barriers you are renting and repurchase those you bought if you are not keeping them. Complete cycle.

Quality and Safety
Is a used slide really as safe as a new one?
Functionally, yes – as long as the Jersey profile is intact and the concrete shows no structural fractures. The redirective geometry is what ensures safety: a vehicle hitting the barrier slides along the curved profile. This geometry does not wear out over time. What changes with a used barrier is its appearance: marks, dust, sometimes surface chipping at the ends. The function remains equivalent.
Were your used guardrails originally MTQ approved?
A significant portion of our used inventory comes from MTQ construction sites and therefore retains original specifications. However, MTQ approval formally applies to new barriers, compliant at the time of manufacture. Do you inspect each barrier before putting it back into service?
Yes. After each site use, the barriers are inspected by our team to check the integrity of the profile, the absence of fractures, the condition of the anchor points and lifting eyes, and the flatness of the base. Units that do not pass inspection are removed from stock.
Logistics and Installation
How many used slides do you have in stock?
Stock varies depending on the season and ongoing returns from job sites. For large orders (several tens to several hundreds), we generally coordinate between our three warehouses. Call us with your target quantity — we will confirm immediate availability and the date additional units will be back in stock.
How many guardrails are needed for 100 m of safety barriers?
With standard 13' (≈ 4 m) sections, it takes approximately 25 guardrails to cover 100 m. Impact attenuators must be added to exposed ends if the barrier borders a high-speed road.
Can you deliver outside of Quebec or Ontario?
Our three depots (Napierville, Lévis, Limoges) cover all of Quebec and Eastern Ontario up to the greater Ottawa area. For central and southwestern Ontario, contact us at 613 369-8383 — feasibility depends on volume and transport. Outside this area, we evaluate on a case-by-case basis.
Purchase, lease, and repurchase
How much less does a used slide cost compared to a new one?
The price difference depends on quantity, duration, and current availability. Generally, the difference is significant enough to make used equipment clearly more economical on most sites where aesthetics are not critical. The best option: ask us for a comparative quote for new vs. used for your specific needs.
Should I buy or rent?
Rule of thumb: for less than 24 months of use, renting is almost always more economical than buying. Beyond that, buying offers better value. For a permanent installation, buying used guardrails is often the most rational option — the durability of new barriers at a much lower price.
Do you buy back the slides at the end of the project?
Yes. If you have purchased guardrails for a now-completed project and do not wish to keep them, we will buy them back depending on their condition and quantity. Send us photos and details (length, number, location) to soumission@groupechoquette.com for a quick offer.
