Job site safety — MTQ approved

Rental and sale of concrete barriers (Jersey)

Jersey type concrete barriers, compliant with the requirements of the Ministère des Transports du Québec. Rental for temporary sites, sales for permanent installations, TL-1 to TL-3 impact attenuators, and specialized 24/7 delivery across Quebec and Ontario.

Why a Jersey barrier?

The safety benchmark for your roadworks and events

The concrete Jersey barrier is the North American standard for redirecting vehicles in work zones. Its distinctive curved shape allows a vehicle that strikes it to slide along the profile rather than stopping abruptly, reducing the severity of the impact for the driver and protecting workers behind the barrier.

At Choquette Blocs de Béton, we have been supplying MTQ-approved barriers for over 30 years to road contractors, municipalities, event organizers, and industrial clients. Whether you need to rent 50 Jersey barriers for two weeks or purchase a permanent installation of several hundred meters, our specialized transport fleet delivers directly to your job site.

Our advantages

Four reasons to entrust us with your slide projects

— 01

MTQ-approved

All our Jersey barriers comply with the requirements of the Ministère des Transports du Québec. Guaranteed compliance for your road, highway, and civil engineering projects under public or private contract.

— 02

Rent or buy

For a worksite lasting a few weeks, rental is the most economical option — with no long-term commitment. For a permanent installation, purchasing is more advantageous after 12 months. We'll do the math for you.

— 03

Impact Attenuators

In addition to guardrails, we offer TL-1, TL-2, and TL-3 impact attenuators to terminate a line of jerseys at exposed ends. Complies with North American standards.

— 04

Specialized 24/7 delivery

Evening or weekend emergency? Our fleet mobilizes quickly for unplanned road closures, accidents requiring immediate securing, and tight-window construction sites.

Road applications

Where the Jersey barrier is the go-to tool

— 01

Motorway construction

Separation of traffic/work zone on motorways, national roads, and boulevards. Vehicle redirection in case of impact, protection of on-site teams and heavy equipment.

— 02

Securing construction perimeter

Delineates the construction site from the public. Prevents unauthorized access. Also serves as a temporary noise barrier to mitigate the spread of construction noise to residents.

— 03

Events and street closures

Festivals, races, outdoor concerts, public markets, demonstrations. Visibly and impassably block vehicular access, without endangering pedestrians.

— 04

Building and infrastructure protection

Anti-ramming bollards for sensitive areas (hospitals, schools, public entrances). Protection against accidental or deliberate vehicular intrusion. Removable or permanent installation.

Economical alternative

We also offer slides not approved by the MTQ

— 01

Construction site parking areas

Partitioning of material and equipment storage areas. Demarcation of truck traffic lanes within a large site (quarry, distribution center).

— 02

Industrial and logistics demarcation

Warehouse backyards, loading docks, high-traffic forklift areas. Structural protection of sensitive points (transformers, gas pipes).

— 03

Quarries, sand pits and sorting centers

Demarcation of traffic lanes between the loading area, the weighbridge, and the exit. Protection of ground operators from loaders, dumpers, and trucks. Robust, movable from one cell to another as operations progress.

— 04

Electrical Posts and Critical Infrastructure

Anti-ram protection for transformers, substations, gas pipelines, and industrial charging stations. Prevents accidental or intentional vehicular intrusion into high-value areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

All you need to know about Jersey barriers

Concrete answers to questions from our entrepreneur, engineer and project manager clients.

Compliance and Specifications

What is a Jersey barrier?

This is a precast concrete barrier with a distinctive curved profile ("Jersey" shape). Its geometry is designed so that a vehicle hitting it will slide along the profile and be redirected rather than stopped abruptly. It is the North American standard for separating construction zones along roadsides.

"Approved by MTQ," what does that concretely mean?

The Ministère des Transports du Québec defines specific requirements for the composition of concrete, the dimensions, the marking, and the certificate of conformity of the barriers used on the provincial road network. An MTQ-approved barrier can be used on MTQ construction sites and on all public or private construction sites that refer to it as a quality standard.

Difference between TL-1, TL-2, and TL-3?

TL stands for “Test Level”—it is the North American classification for end-of-guardrail impact attenuators, based on the speed at which the system was tested. TL-1 (50 km/h), TL-2 (70 km/h), TL-3 (100 km/h). The higher the TL, the more effectively the attenuator protects against high-speed impacts. The choice depends on the posted speed limit of the road where you are installing it.

Logistics and Installation

How many zippers are needed to close 100 m?

With standard 13' sections, approximately 25 guardrail panels are required for 100 m of barrier. This calculation typically includes an impact attenuator (TL-1, TL-2, or TL-3) at each traffic-exposed end.

What equipment do you use for the installation?

We primarily use 2x4 or 4x4 forklifts if your location requires it. Our team includes all handling equipment in the delivery and installation service.

What's the lead time to mobilize 50 urgent jerseys?

For emergencies (accident, unscheduled closure, tight timeframe), we typically mobilize within 24 hours, depending on stock availability at the nearest depot to your site. Our 24/7 service is available evenings, weekends, and holidays. Don't hesitate to call 514 701-5524, 418 570-2900, or 613 369-8383.

Buying, Renting, and Trade-ins

New vs. used slides — what's the difference?

Our used guardrails come from completed construction sites. They meet the same original MTQ standards; their surface may show signs of use (dust, handling marks, slight chips). The safety function remains equivalent. This is the most economical choice for construction sites where aesthetics are not a priority.

Should I buy or rent?

Rule of thumb: for use under 24 months, rental is almost always more economical. Beyond that, purchasing pays off. For permanent installations (around a public building, transformer, risk area), purchasing is recommended. Our project manager will provide you with a detailed comparison based on your timeline.

Do you take back the slide rails at the end of the project?

Yes — it's included as standard in our rental contracts, and we also buy back purchased guardrails if you wish to resell them at the end of the project. Send us the details (quantity, condition, location) to soumission@groupechoquette.com for a quick offer.

Need Jersey barriers quickly?

Describe your work site: length to secure, duration, urgency. We'll get back to you with a price, lead time, and recommended configuration (with or without attenuator). 24/7 service.
